I'm off meat, that's it.

I don't want to be labeled as the "holier-than-thou" vegetarian, because I know, as a carnivore, it's hard to be choosey, especially in America. And I will preface this brief blog entry with the note that I don't plan on being vegetarian forever, in fact I hope I won't have to be. In my opinion we're meant to be omnivores. However we act like straight up carnivores and we're caught in this awful system of food production that we have. It's shameful the way we produce food in general, but in particular meat (beef, pork, and poultry). Not only are the production practices shameful (for the producers and the fact they we let it happen in our country), but they're simply irrational. We eat for the flavor, we like flavor for it implies nutrition and nutrition equals survival. Today we consume obscene amounts of gross tasting food masked in salt in sugar. Lame! I want wholesome nutritious food! Any meat that is in your local grocery store most likely isn't that. I recently read an article in the NY Times blog that was more than convincing for me about the situation we all, as people who eat food, are in: http://bittman.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/10/25/hey-chef-get-with-the-program/#more-2935.
I like meat, I want to eat it. I don't even want to eat that much (I don't think we're meant to eat as much meat as we do as Americans), but what I do eat I want to clean, free from chemicals, and just abuse in general. So I will be taking a break on this "abused meat" unless it's sourced from somewhere that respects food.
