and the training has begun...

as a few of you may already know i've recently committed myself to a 5k. now, if someone (anyone, let alone me myself) said earlier this year that i would be running a 5k in april, i would slap you straight in the mouth. i hate running. (yeah, i know what you're thinking, "Uh, Rosin, FYI 5ks generally entail ahem tons of @*$%E$@#& running!"). also, i'm adverse to just exercising in general. okay, that said, i enjoy exercise classes, i love playing sports, and yoga is always a welcomed activity. but running.. gah, running was never my forte.

an opportunity came along for me to finally change my relationship with running. a friend of mine is organizing a charity event, Alpha Xi Delta's AmaXing Challenge 5k Fun Run, whose proceeds (100%!!) will go towards Autism Speaks. i thought to myself, "Well, damn. If this isn't going to inspire me to run, I honestly don't know what will". i'm not even sure i'd run from a fire, you guys. power-walk maybe. anyway, this done did it. i'm running in april and i'm training up everyday. adjusting my diet a bit. taking supplements and whatnot. all in all i'm really excited. it's nice having a deadline and a great cause to motivate me!

You can find more info about the fun run here! and you can educate yourself more about autism here.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

...so, ladies (and guys, too!) get involved by doing something as simple as feeling your boobies; even you're young and your chances are very slim you might as well get some practice in (:
This month sport some pink, walk for a foundation, or donate. There are a lot of organizations that make donating easy by teaming up with brands who sell products (usually pink) and devote a portion of the proceeds go to breast cancer research. I know I will be purchasing a favorite hair product: It's a 10 leave-in spray which comes in a limited edition hot pink bottle. The proceeds from the sale benefit Christina Applegate's Foundation, Right Action for Women whose mission is to educate women about breast cancer as well as "provide aid to individuals who are at increased risk for breast cancer and do not have insurance or the financial flexibility to cover the high costs associated with breast screenings." More info can be found at  www. rightactionforwomen.org

If you open any women's magazine this month they are filled with breast cancer related articles and ways to support breast cancer awareness with your wallet.

At the least, feel your boobies...or have someone else do it for you ;)
